TRIBAL ART Carved Hardwood Tribes persons Heads two This offering is for two hand carved Hardwood portrait/ heads of two African tribes persons. We are pleased to offer these two, hand carved hardwood, African Style, portrait heads of two tribes persons. The carvings appear to be of two African Tribes persons, in two distinctly different styles of carving, most likely by two different crafts persons, and possible two different peoples, or tribal affiliation. The taller of the two carvings is 12 1/4 tall, approximately 3 3/4 inches wide, and 6 1/2 inches from front to back. The wood appears top be a hardwood, the stain makes it appear to be Ebony, but it is too light in weight to Ebony. There, unfortunately is no makers mark. There is also a check crack in the wood, on the left cheek, facing the sculpt. But it does little to detract from the beauty of the work. The second, shorter of the two carvings is 7 3/4 tall, approximately 3 7/8 inches wide, and 4 1/2 front to back. The wood is a much lighter strain. The stain is dark, with a streaked and mottled application. There are no indication of an artists mark on this carving either. Both are very nice pieces of work, and would be wonderful additions to a collection, or as accent pieces to a decor with a African motif.
