Primitive Antique Wood HAND TURNED CARVED MASHER PESTLE Original red paint on handle- fantastic patina- it's been used and it shows, this item was created as a necessary tool for a farmhouse kitchen and not as a display prop. This is the charm of these Primitive pieces. Size approx. 11.75" long, handle is about 8" of that length. Pestle masher is about 3 3/8" long and 2 1/8" diameter at the larger end. Heavy, masher is made from a solid HEAVY piece of wood. Handle is a separate hand turned piece with waves at the end, to give a better grip/hold when in use A beautifully made piece of Primitive Folk Art great for display [or use]. HIGHLY collectible and SUPER unusual due to original paint on handle/shape. Nothing about this piece was machine made, and I would date it to the mid-late 1800s. It's a lovely, EARLY primitive piece. This piece has some great patina and marks on it- it has been used for over 130+ years and looks as such. The scratches, marks, and irregularities just add to the charm. Great darkened aged patina on this piece. Excellent antique condition- no cracks, no splits, no splinters, no repairs. Some obvious wear marks all over piece appropriate for age and use, but the feel of this masher is VERY silky smooth to the hand from being used over and over again for a long time. Handle is tight and not loose or wobbly. Wood looks to be maple, but it may be oak. Not sure. Heavy.
