A superbly crafted implement; pecked, ground, and smoothed with very comfortable hand and finger placement; a tool most likely used in a variety of methods and techniques that involved a light duty crushing, pecking, grinding, smoothing action; a tremendous example of ancient technology, and artistic design and craftsmanship.
